In my upcoming solo show PLEASURE, I wanted to stretch the boundaries of my work. I explored how my illustrations translate to other mediums beyond print— silk cloths, a soft tufted rug, and on hand fans. Objects, which I now realise, likewise provoke the feeling of this collection’s theme: PLEASURE as both emotional and physical, both felt and perceived.

These works are personal to me, where I negotiate my own relationship with intimacy. It is a collection with a much more mature take on my illustration work, and distinct from the commercial practice many of you here are familiar with.

PLEASURE unveils something private and sacred, revealing a side to my own mind that I only share through sketches that no one really sees.

THE PHOTOS

I knew I wanted to produce a shoot for this collection. When @thejpcampos and I were discussing which photographer to approach and collaborate with, we felt a current go through our bodies when we mentioned Joseph Pascual.

Many of Joseph’s best works remind me of those personal photos taken by one’s beloved in an intimate, vulnerable moment. Photos they bothered to have developed and stashed in a box of mementos or in an album somewhere, revisited to remember the beauty and care that exists in that moment.

True enough, these initial images turned out to be like lightning in a bottle. We were able to translate each other’s visions into reality, with the help and magic of Zidjian and the embodiment of Hilder and Bruce.
